Not only was John’s January/February release all about honoring Pete TO EVERYONE IN ALL THE WORLD: A CELEBRATION OF PETE SEEGER- today John is launching a special video honoring Pete and John’s long influence from Pete’s life. You can see it here and will notice many well-known faces in it :)

While brainstorming the release of John’s album, we figured we’d do something very special with this song. So a video contest was created where John provides the audio file of the track and anyone can interpret their vision of an accompanying video any way they’d like. John is especially excited to see what people do - and as we might say, “give the power to the people!” So if you like to compose or edit videos John explains:
One of the things I always tell my songwriting students is that a song is a conversation with the listener. You have your own notion of what the song means, but it's not entirely up to you. The listener has ideas, experiences, visions that dictate how she hears it and how she comes to think about it. So here's a special challenge/opportunity on this, the 100th Anniversary of Pete Seeger's birth.
"How Can I Keep from Singing." Is a song I learned as a kid from Pete's singing. It was the title cut of my first recording, back in 1975. It's been an important song to me...and countless others...for years. Is it a song of joy? Of faith? Of defiance? All of these? What movie plays in your head when you hear it?
Here's a chance...an invitation..to share that movie. We'll give you a .wav file or a high-def mp3 of my recording of the song. It's your soundtrack. You make the video. We'll give you all the instructions and information you'll need to post this, along with everyone else's. Share the song, share your vision.
