Barefoot Boy with Boots On
Six-time Grammy nominee John McCutcheon has released over twenty albums of old- and new-time American music in the past 25 years. Now, for the first time, this 1980 Front Hall Records release is available on CD. In this wide-ranging collection of fourteen cuts we see the emerging eclecticism that gave birth to one of the most versatile and far-reaching talents in modern folk music. McCutcheon, then in his twenties and already a master of seven different instruments, showcased his love of music of the Carter Family, Roscoe Holcomb, I.D. Stamper, Jimmy Cooper. He also included newly composed music by such traditional Southern writers as Jean Ritchie, Florence Reece, Asa Martin, and Kate Peters Sturgill. Most notably perhaps, this reissue also features the recording debut of John's hammer dulcimer master, Paul Van Arsdale.
