One of the most dynamic and gratifying things that happens at the Songwriting Camps is the energy and creativity brought in by younger Southern songwriters. However, like myself as a young person, they don’t always have the means to afford camp fees and travel expenses that come with attending a professional camp, especially in this economy. As those musicians who came before me and those who will come after, I want to be able to help make this experience more accessible to talented young artists who otherwise would not be able to attend.
I have decided to create a scholarship fund to pay for one slot each session that will help these younger, regional writers come to Camp. As I believe people ought to have skin in the game, the scholarship recipient will still be responsible for their $150 deposit, but the balance of their fees will be covered by the fund.
Who would be eligible?
· Must be between 18-30 years old
· Have some experience in songwriting
· Be from the Appalachian region.
The Fund has been “Seeded” by the family of a gentleman that long dreamt of coming to the Camps, but died unexpectedly in 2019. It seemed a perfect way to honor him to use his family's donation in this way. Please be generous and help a deserving young writer join with 19 others for what many have described as “a life-changing week” for writing, music, and fellowship.
