Steve has become more and more interesting as the years have gone on. His songwriting is informed by traditional forms but driven by a raw intensity that often belies the tenderness that surprises at every turn. T-Bone Burnett produced this release and his fingerprints are all over it. "God Is God" is a particular favorite here. If you like this one, try "Washington Square Serenade," Steve's 2007 release with the same acoustic-based, organic sound. I loved it.
